The Ela Peace Time Capsule

On September 21, 2071, 50 years after The Ela Peace Time Capsule ​was buried, an excavation ceremony will take place in Ela Township Park.  Inside will ​be remembrances of this peaceful time in 2021 when residents contributed items for the time capsule.


Four Easy Steps to Be a Part of Ela Township History:

  1. Select an item to bury in The Ela Peace Time Capsule. Your item must be non-perishable and no larger than 6” diameter. 

  2. Ela Area Public Library, 275 Mohawk Trail, Lake Zurich, IL, is accepting items for the time capsule until closing on September 1, 2021. 

  3. A minimum $25.00 donation is requested*. Scan the QR code below or go to to make your donation. Or include a check with your item payable to Friends of Ela Peace Project. 

  4. Mark your calendar for 1:00pm on September 21, 2021, International Day of Peace, to attend the ceremony to bury The Ela Peace Time Capsule in Ela Park. 









Every contributor to The Ela Peace Time Capsule will receive a certificate of participation.  All contributors and their families will be special guests at the 2071 excavation ceremony.  


*Donations will be used to fund the Ela Peace Pole. Suggested items for the time capsule: letters, photos, predictions for the future, items that will be of interest 50 years from now (no valuables please). All items will become the property of the Ela Township Historical Society and Museum for their collection upon excavation on September 21, 2071. The Ela Peace Project has the right to reject items that are illegal, combustible, or viewed as inappropriate such as drugs, ammunition, weapons, etc.
